the air drawn into my lungs
chills my body,
but not quite enough to sting
september nights
won't let me see my breath yet
but the building lights
against the newly dark sky
let me see her face
and everyone going somewhere
coming home,out for a drink
is no one to us
the cars rush by,
and the sounds of downtown
echo across the parking lot
but our indifference
drowns out everything
but our voices,
and all the gestures inbetween
